Elisabeth De Waele is head of the 2021 newly created Department of Clinical Nutrition at Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussel which unites medical doctors, dietitians, pharmacists and nurses who take care of hospitalized and ambulatory patients challenged by nutritional and metabolic issues. She is Medical Director of the Intensive Care Department and Associate Professor at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Erasmus Hogeschool Brussel teaching medical students, pharmacists and dietitians in training.
Since 2018 she is Member of the Executive Board of the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism. She is an active member of the Metabolism and Nutrition Section of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine and Member of the Faculty of the International Symposium on Intensive Care & Emergency Medicine.
She graduated with great distinction from Vrije Universiteit Brussel in 2004, completed postgraduate training in general surgery in 2010 and became a certified Intensive Care Physician in 2012. In 2008 she obtained a Bachelor diploma in Clinical Nutrition (Odisee Graduate School).
Her scientific work is focused on clinical research in metabolism and nutrition in critically ill, cancer and surgical patients and resulted in a PhD Thesis entitled “Energy Expenditure and Nutritional Therapy in Critically ill Patients” in 2015. She acts as a principal investigator in 9 studies and numerous times as a co-investigator.
Professor De Waele has published 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has an extended experience in lecturing live and virtual at international and national symposia (over 100 performances) and also dedicates here time to communicate to a non-medical audience on different topics (more than 60 press contacts in 2020). She is member of ISICEM, ESICM, ESPEN, SIZ and reviewer for several high-end peer-reviewed medical journals.
She forms a happy family with her husband who is a Gynecologist/Fertility specialist (MD, PhD) and their three children. The Golden pheasants in the garden brighten up their lives.

Ignacio Martin-Loeches, MD, PhD, FJFICMI is a full-time Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine at St James’s Hospital and Professor at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland.
He is the Chair of CoBaTrICE (International Competency Based Training programme in Intensive Care Medicine for Europe and other world regions) under the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) and elected council member of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine. He is part of the Steering committee and executive member of the research-working group of the Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC). He is the secretary of the Acute Critical Care Group at the European Respiratory Society (ERS).
He is principal Investigator of European Regional Development Funds (ERDF), Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) grants and the European Network for ICU-related infections (ENIRRIs) under the European Respiratory Society (ERS). He has published over 300 manuscripts with over 10K citation and his H index is 53.

Dr. Singer has over 35 years of clinical and academic experience. He was born in France and has made his medical school at the Louis Pasteur faculty of Medicine of Strasbourg (France). Boarded in gastroenterology and nutrition as well as in intensive care, he is currently director of the General Intensive Care Department, Rabin Medical Center, Beilinson Campus, Petach Tikva, Israel (1995-present), Full Professor of Anesthesia and Intensive Care at the Sackler school of medicine, Tel Aviv University, head of the Institute of Nutrition Research (2006-present) at Rabin Medical Center, Chair of the Eduarda and Dr Moshe Ishay Institute for the Study of the Effects of Natural Food on the Quality of Life and Human Health at the Tel Aviv University, and director of the Metabolism Laboratory at the Felsenstein Medical Research Center. Dr. Singer was President (2003), Treasurer (2004-2008) and Chairman of the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) (2010-2014) and the co-chairman of the ESPEN Guidelines editorial board (2014-2018). He is an honorary member of ESPEN (2018), from the Cech, Hungarian society and the Philippines society of Parenteral and enteral Nutrition.
His research is focused on metabolism and nutrition mainly in the critically ill, but also in artificial intelligence. He is the editor in chief of Clinical Nutrition Experimental, an associate editor, section editor or co-editor of Intensive Care Medicine, Clinical Nutrition, Nutrition, Nutrition in Clinical Practice or JPEN. He is co-principal author of the teaching modules on Nutrition in the ICU from ESPEN (LLL) as well as of the ESPEN: Nutrition in the ICU 2019 guidelines. He is cooperating with many international centers in terms of research such as Geneva, Lausanne, Brussels, Parma, Hamilton (CN), Warshaw, Vienna, Madrid, Dallas, Houston in terms of research.
Dr. Singer has presented over 400 lectures internationally, and had more than 250 invited papers at scientific meetings. He has published more than 185 original articles, 65 review articles, 42 book chapters, and more than 400 abstracts. He has been cited more than 18,000 times (more than 2900 times in 2019) and his index-h is 55.
